Foster Responsibilities
What we ask of our fosters
Fostering is one of the most rewarding ways to help a dog, and it is also a real commitment. Here is what we ask of every foster before a dog comes home with you.
You are responsible for caring for the dog
While a dog is in your home, you take care of their everyday needs: feeding, fresh water, walks, play, grooming, potty training and keeping them safe. You also bring them to any vet appointments we arrange and follow any care instructions we give you.
Previous experience is ideal
Many of our dogs come to us after a big change in their lives, and some are nervous, young or still learning their manners. Fosters who have cared for a dog before are best placed to help them settle. If you are newer to dogs, tell us, and we will match you with a dog that suits your experience.
You must live within one hour of Toronto or Vancouver
Our fosters need to be close enough to bring their dog to vet visits, meet-and-greets with adopters, and our team when needed. We can only accept fosters who live within about an hour's drive of Toronto or Vancouver.
You must provide daily updates
Every day, send us a short update on how your foster dog is doing: a photo or video and a few notes on eating, energy, behaviour and anything that worries you. These updates help us look after the dog's health and help us find the right adopter, because we can tell families exactly what the dog is like at home.
Small dogs only
Puppocino helps small dogs only, so every dog you foster with us will be a small breed or small mixed-breed dog.
